His arrogance often led him to underestimate his enemies, which ultimately contributed to his downfall & death.

Role in the Story :
Red Gate Arc
Baruka’s prominence came during the Red Gate Arc, where a C-Rank dungeon unexpectedly transformed into a Red Gate, trapping a group of hunters, including Sung Jinwoo and Kim Chul’s expedition team. Red Gates are notoriously dangerous, sealing hunters inside until the boss is defeated or all hunters perish.
- ‣ Initial Conflict – Kim Chul, leading the higher-ranked hunters, splited the group to hunt the dungeon boss. Baruka and his Ice Elf warriors ambushed Kim Chul’s party, slaughtering all but Kim Chul, who fled in terror. Baruka pursued him, showcasing his relentless nature.
- ‣ Encounter with Jinwoo – While chasing Kim Chul, Baruka encountered Jinwoo’s group. Recognizing Jinwoo’s strength (informed by a scout), Baruka revealed his intelligence by talking first. He offered to spare Jinwoo if he sacrifices his squad that was later rejected by him, leading to an intense battle.
- ‣ Battle Dynamics – Baruka initially dominated Jinwoo in a one-on-one fight, shrugging off Jinwoo’s attacks and the fire magic of his shadow mages. Jinwoo, acknowledging Baruka’s superior strength, summoned his shadow army, including Ice Bears, Igris, and later Iron (extracted from Kim Chul’s shadow). The battle became a three-against-one struggle, with Baruka holding his own against Jinwoo, Igris, and Iron.
- ‣ Defeat – Jinwoo employed tactical maneuvers, such as using telekinesis to destroy Baruka’s dagger and coordinating attacks with his shadows. Iron restrained Baruka, allowing shadow mages to unleash fireballs, and Jinwoo used Stealth to land a critical hit. In a final act, Iron crushed Baruka with his warhammer, ending the fight.
- ‣ Failed Shadow Extraction – Jinwoo attempted to extract Baruka’s shadow to add him to his army but failed all three attempts due to Baruka’s superior strength and level, marking a rare failure for Jinwoo and highlighting Baruka’s power.
