Detailed Plot Explained
To explain the whole plot of Berserk of Gluttony, here we will divide the whole story in different parts & under different headings.
The World of Skills
The story takes place in a fantasy world where every person is born with a unique skill. These skills can be anything, like super strength, magic, or healing. Your skill decides your job and how people treat you.
Powerful skills make you a noble or a hero, while weak ones leave you poor and ignored. Fate Graphite, the main character, has the skill “Gluttony,” which only makes him feel starving all the time. Because of this, he’s treated like trash by society, working as a gatekeeper for a castle and barely surviving.
Fate’s Hard Life
At the start, Fate is shown as a skinny, tired young man with black hair and brown eyes. He’s kind but weak, and his Gluttony skill makes him miserable. He’s always hungry, no matter how much he eats, and people mock him for it.
At the castle, he works for the Vlerick family, who are cruel Holy Knights (elite warriors with strong skills). They bully Fate, and so does Rafale Vlerick, the family’s mean son. Fate’s only comfort is Roxy Hart, a kind and brave Holy Knight from the Hart family. Roxy treats Fate like an actual person, giving him hope.
One night, while guarding the castle gate, Fate catches a thief sneaking in. In a desperate fight, he kills the thief to protect himself. That’s when everything changes. His Gluttony skill activates, and he hears a strange voice in his head.
The skill “eats” the thief’s soul, stealing their strength, skills, and abilities. Fate suddenly feels stronger, but his hunger gets worse. He realizes Gluttony isn’t useless—it’s a dangerous power that grows by killing others.
Meeting Greed
Soon after, Fate finds a mysterious black sword in a shop. The sword talks to him and calls itself Greed, a weapon with a mind of its own. Greed explains that it’s connected to the “Mortal Sin” of Greed, just like Fate’s Gluttony is tied to the Mortal Sin of Gluttony.
The Mortal Sins are rare, powerful skills based on the seven deadly sins (like greed, gluttony, wrath, and lust). Greed becomes Fate’s partner, guiding him in fights and teaching him how to use his new powers. The sword can change into different forms, like a bow or scythe, making Fate a better fighter.
With Greed’s help, Fate starts hunting monsters and bandits at night, using a skull mask to hide his face. Each kill feeds his Gluttony, making him stronger but also hungrier. If he doesn’t keep killing, the hunger drives him crazy, and his eyes turn red. Fate struggles to control this curse while keeping his kind heart.
Joining the Hart Family
Fate’s life improves when Roxy Hart hires him to work for her family. Roxy is a young Holy Knight who believes in fairness and protecting people. She sees Fate’s hard work and gives him a chance, unlike the Vlericks.
Fate admires Roxy and wants to protect her, even though his Gluttony makes him feel unworthy. Working for the Harts, he travels to new places and fights monsters, learning more about his powers. However, Fate’s secret night hunts attract attention. Rafale Vlerick, who hates Fate, suspects he’s hiding something.
Meanwhile, Fate meets other people with Mortal Sin skills, like Myne, a fierce girl with the “Wrath” skill and a giant axe called Sloth. Myne is tough and only cares about money, but she helps Fate sometimes. She hints that the Mortal Sin skills come from ancient experiments in a place called Galia, far away.
The Galia Arc
The story takes a darker turn when Roxy is sent to Galia, a ruined continent full of powerful monsters. Fate follows her to keep her safe, even though it’s dangerous. In Galia, he faces terrifying creatures, like the “Crown-tier” monsters, which are so strong they can destroy armies.
Fate’s Gluttony grows stronger with each kill, but the hunger pushes him to his limits. He also learns more about the Mortal Sin skills. Long ago, scientists in Galia tried to create superhumans, and the Mortal Sin skills were the result. These skills are both a gift and a curse, giving power but also pain.
Fate meets other Mortal Sin bearers, like Eris, who has the “Lust” skill. Eris is mysterious and seems to know more about Fate’s past than she lets on. She warns him that his Gluttony could destroy him if he’s not careful. Fate also discovers he has Holy Beastfolk blood, which makes him different from humans and ties him to the Mortal Sin experiments.
Fate’s Growth
As the story continues, Fate becomes a Holy Knight himself and starts his own family, the Barbatos family, to protect the people he loves. He fights stronger enemies, like other Mortal Sin bearers and ancient monsters called “Divine Dragons.” Each battle tests his strength and his heart. Fate wants to stay kind and loyal to Roxy, but his Gluttony makes him question if he’s becoming a monster.
The story also explores Fate’s relationships. Roxy is his biggest inspiration, and their bond grows stronger, though Fate hides his Gluttony from her. Greed, the sword, is like a tough older brother, always pushing Fate to be better. Myne becomes an ally, and her own tragic past shows Fate he’s not alone. Eris’s secrets hint at a bigger mystery about the world and the Mortal Sins.
Where the Story Goes
By the later parts of the light novels and manga (up to 2025), Fate is a leader and a warrior, but his Gluttony still haunts him. He uncovers more about the Galian experiments and the origins of the Mortal Sin skills.
New enemies, like the bearers of “Envy” and “Pride,” challenge him, and he learns that his skill might be the key to saving or destroying the world. The story builds toward a big showdown, with Fate’s choices deciding his fate and the fate of those he loves.
